Boasting clean, safe beaches, friendly locals and at least 300 days of sunshine each year, the Algarve has much to offer families, so it’s no surprise that so many flock to the region for their annual fix of sun, sea and sand. And when you holiday in the Algarve you’re never far away from a beach or an attraction, which, of course, is very important when travelling with small children…
We like to make a fuss of our younger guests throughout your stay with us; after all, happy children mean happy parents. The special treatment begins as soon as you arrive, with a surprise gift for children featuring toys and games, and, for parents, a welcome pack of essentials such as bread, milk and tea, so you can quickly settle in and start making the most of your time together as a family.
We also understand that families can operate on a different timetable from holidaymakers without children, which is why, every morning, we deliver a breakfast basket to all our family suites, so you can enjoy the most important meal of the day in your own time.
Younger children will love our friendly Max Kids Club (for 2 to 7 years), which is open every day and runs indoor and outdoor sessions from 10.00-17.30, with a different theme each week. For older children, our Max Junior Club (8 to 14 years) offers activities such as football, volleyball, badminton and the traditional Portuguese ‘peddy paper’ (treasure hunt).
Next to our family accommodation you’ll find our family pool, which features a retractable roof for those rare days when the sun isn’t shining. There’s also a children’s play area, and a laid-back pool bar that serves light, child-friendly dishes such as hot dogs, baguettes and wraps.
For those who want to spend time together as a family, there are many activities available in and around the resort – from walking tours and cycling to volleyball and archery. Our helpful leisure team can also book a number of nearby activities, such as a Tuk-Tuk tour of the Caldas de Monchique and Monchique Village, or a jeep safari over the Monchique mountains. Other nearby attractions include Parque da Mina – an old house and mine with an animal park – and Fóia, the highest point in the Algarve.
Further afield, but still a child-friendly drive away, you’ll find popular attractions such as Slide & Splash, Aquashow Park, Zoomarine and Zoo Lagos. And no trip to the Algarve would be complete without visiting the annual FIESA Sand Sculpture Festival in Pêra, which runs throughout the summer and showcases spectacular hand-crafted sand art.
Back at the hotel, exhausted children can curl up in front of one of the in-suite flatscreen TVs, while parents can relax with an aperitif on the spacious balcony. We even have a cosy private cinema on site – the perfect place to chill out and watch some family movies together.
When it comes to food, you’ll find child-friendly dishes and children’s menus in all four of our resort restaurants, where a wide range of local specialities and international dishes are available, to satisfy even the pickiest of palates.
Conveniently located in the family block, our casual Italian restaurant, Pizzaria da Serra, offers tempting Italian antipasti, pasta and desserts, as well as a range of pizzas, created by an authentic Italian pizzaiolo, and featuring local ingredients such as Monchique chouriço sausage. And, if you want to prepare your own meals, the good news is that our 40sq m family suites also feature fully equipped, state-of-the-art kitchenettes.
In short, there are so many exciting things for families to see and do, both at the resort and nearby, that you’ll be spoilt for choice. And if you don’t have time to do it all, you’ll just have to come back again next year…
